American Idol Taught America to Text – And Other TV Firsts

Our electronic world has changed our lives at lightning speed. Can you even imagine a time when you didn’t have instant access to the world at your fingertips? From directions to price comparisons while shopping ‘in’ a store to instantly contacting your mom, best friend or child the world is literally at our fingertips.

Mainstream media has been slow to recognize and acknowlege new technology, however some TV programs were on board from the beginning.

First Television Program to Use Texting

Back in the early 2000’s some younger kids had begun using their thumbs to painstakingly hammer out a text message to a friend.  In 2003 American Idol, with help from AT&T (or Cingulair at the time) helped Idol set up a voting system using text messages. read more

Facebook Purging Business Page Likes

If you manage a Facebook Business Page you may soon see some unexpected, and unwanted, changes to your Page.

On March 12, 2015 Facebook will be purging deactivated accounts.  This means that any Likes you have on your Page from these accounts will be deleted.  Causing the Like counts on Business Pages to dip.

These accounts include all deactivated personal profiles as well as memorialized accounts.  However, if these accounts are reactivated they will automatically add back into your Like count. read more

The Internet of Things – The Next Big Thing?

My mother talks about the first time she heard the word “computer.” A television show explained how this machine could do advanced calculations faster than a human being. This computer was as big as a city block. She watched the program on her family’s black and white television.

When I bought my first personal computer, it was exponentially more powerful than that early computer – it had a color display and was smaller than my mother’s television.

Today, I carry an even more powerful computer in my pocket. read more
