Facebook is still the Social Networking Goliath, for most businesses it is the main platform used in a marketing strategy, and for good reason.

Here are a few updated stats to show that Facebook has not slowed down its effort to permeate our lives and some very good reasons to start using Facebook to market.

Generation Z is the demographic group born in the mid-1990s to mid-2000s.  This places some Gen Z’s around 25 years old.  The next group of consumers for your business.

Generation Z’s have grown up on the internet and are extremely comfortable with technology and Social Media. (Wikipedia)  If your business does not have a strong Social Media Marketing strategy they will swipe their way past your information to a competitor that has a strong strategy.

Pew Research Center has released their latest findings on Social Media usage.  They report that, today around seven-in-ten Americans use social media to connect with one another, engage with news content, share information, and entertain themselves.

Pew Research Center began tracking Social Media data in 2005.  At that time, only 5% of Americans were using Social Networks.  Six years later, in 2011, the number rose to 50% and today they report that 69% of the public uses some type of Social Media. read more

Google AdWords used to be the internet standard for advertising.  Hiring a firm to optimize your website so you would rank closer to, if not at, number 1 in search results.  Adding in AdWords gave you an additional edge.

However, Facebook has been upping the ante with their advertising campaigns.  Creating very desirable features for businesses to use in order to get their business in front of people.

Each of the sites change their algorithms frequently.  Google shifts their requirements to rank high and Facebook changes what shows first in their users’ News Feeds. read more

Understand Your Product

No matter how conversant you are with your products and/or services, you probably are not “selling” what you think you are. For example, if you are selling replacement windows, you are not selling a simple window – you may be selling a way for homeowners to save money on energy bills, or allowing a better view out the window, or a way to keep a draft out of a child’s room.  In other words, you are selling the benefits of your products.

Understand Your Customer

Once you have articulated the benefits of your products, it is time to target the people, who will be interested in those features.  For example, if you are selling windows, it might be smart to target people with older homes, or at least have an argument ready for new homeowners, who are allocating most of their funds to furnishing and decorating a new home. read more
