Facebook Watch is the video-on-demand service operated by Facebook.  Launched in August 2017 it provides original video content that is produced for the company by partners.

In June 2018, Facebook launched six news programs from partners including BuzzFeed, Vox, CNN, and Fox News.  In addition to original programming, Facebook Watch also distributes content licensed from other companies. On November 30, 2018, it was announced that the streaming service had struck a deal with 20th Century Fox Television to stream television series Buffy the Vampire SlayerAngel, and Firefly. read more

On August 19, 2019 Facebook will be changing the text and aspect ratios on its Mobile News Feed.  This will compress the News Feed ads to “match the look and feel of the new Facebook design introduced earlier this year.”

Facebook announced the new F5 design for the Facebook App at F8, the annual conference about future technology that Facebook holds every year.

The F5 design is “simpler, faster and more immersive, putting your communities at the center.”  Overall, it makes it easier for users to find most-used features. read more

Facebook announced this week that they are launching two new tools to help brands use the best creative design and placement for ads.

In order to help streamline your ads and optimize the ad spend, Facebook launched Dynamic Creative and Asset Customization tools.

Per their Facebook Business blog, Facebook states that “these tools will help you streamline your holiday campaign and optimize your ad spend.”

Dynamic Creative will allow businesses to experiment with a variety of ad options in order to find the one that will work best this holiday season.  Businesses advertising can determine the creative assets that perform the best for their specific audience.  This tool automatically delivers a series of ad variations.  Variations are based on images, videos, and the text included in the ads. read more

For those of a certain age we can clearly recall paging through the Sears Catalog every December, marking up the items we desperately wanted Santa to bring us for Christmas. Flash forward to the 90’s and even early 00’s and most of us can relate to the Pottery Barn, Williams-Sonoma, Linen Source, LTD. Commodities (and so many more) catalogs that bombarded our mailboxes.

In 2007, the peak number of catalogs were mailed, totaling 19.6 million.  However, by 2016 retailers mailed out only 9.8 million catalogs. read more

Businesses with physical locations have been challenged when trying to measure the success of their advertising campaigns and the impact on store visits and sales.

Today, Facebook announced “new solutions for businesses to drive people to their stores and measure the amount of store visits and in-store sales following their Facebook mobile ad campaigns.” (FB for Business)

While 90% of retail sales take place in the store, 45% of people use mobile while shopping.  (FB for Business) This blurs the line between the physical and digital worlds and makes it hard to gauge online efforts with offline sales and store visits. read more

There are a lot of reports that Facebook’s “20% Rule” has been phased out and no longer applies.  While the technical “20% Rule” is no longer a measurement, there are still rules regarding text in ad images and Facebook has not completely ditched the 20% Rule.

One of Facebook’s rules for advertising was the 20% Rule, ads with more than 20% text in the image would not be approved to run. There was even a grid tool that could tell whether or not an ad would be acceptable by the amount of text it contained. read more
