How Not to Behave on LinkedIn


 

Is your LinkedIn message box a little full these days?


 

Based on the Subject lines, do you wish you could hide from them?


 

The endless messages with sales pitches can be a bit annoying, and honestly, for most of us, they don’t work!

 


 

Instead of sending endless unsolicited, spammy sales messages – Write a blog and share the link on YOUR profile, post some great content on YOUR profile, share a customer’s experience or review –

 


 

If you using LinkedIn as your main sales tool, please stop!

 


 

While you are at it – stop begging for written references from people who have never worked with you and don’t really know you.

 


 

Because if someone has not worked with you, how can they give an honest reference about your work performance?

 


 

But if you write a great blog, put up some fabulous content and teach us something – we will endorse you.


Please stop emailing what a wonderful opportunity selling electricity is. Most of us know this is just another pyramid sales scheme.

 


 

And, unless people specifically say they are looking for a job, most have jobs already and do not need to join up with some money making scheme.  Also, we don’t have friends who would be interested. Please stop asking.

 


 

Unless you are looking for an employee for a real job in a real company, stop recruiting on LinkedIn

 


 

Instead, use LinkedIn as it should be used.  Connect with other professionals, learn what they do and show everyone what you can do. Do this through blogs and updates not unsolicited sales messages.  Send someone a thank you for the information they provided, introduce yourself and ask THEM what THEY can do for you.

 


 

 

Acknowledge a blog a connection has written, and endorse them.

 


 

Or just simply say hello.

 


 

Social Networking is more about sharing your knowledge than it is about selling to them.  No one wants to be bombarded with sales messages. If you use LinkedIn correctly, share your knowledge  and provide useful information, people will contact you when they need to. They will find you.
