How will people know you are on Facebook unless you tell them

Everyone knows Social Media is where they need to be to promote just about anything.  There are many sites to choose from, but the most popular and largest of all is Facebook.  Facebook is free, has the largest number of users and is, it seems, everywhere.

These days you can’t turn on the TV, read the paper, read a magazine, open a bag of chips without seeing the Facebook  logo–Find us on Facebook, Be our Friend on Facebook, enter our contest on Facebook….that little “F” logo is everywhere.

Anyone can put up a Business Page and start marketing.  However, putting up a Page is just the beginning.  The Page requires several things to make it useful and successful and one of those things is Friends.

Putting up a Business Page, providing excellent content, avoiding the direct sell, and becoming a source of information for people is the goal with that goal working toward bringing in paying customers.

However, all too often Business Owners don’t understand that they have to market their marketing tool.  The best group of people to have as Friends are your current customers.  These are the Friends that have an experience with you already and will likely tell their Friends about you and get your Page to grow even more, but unless you tell them about your Facebook Page they will not come.

Every single piece of print material and email you send to your current clients should have the “F” logo on it and a link to find you on Facebook.  A sign stating you are on Facebook located in your office should be the first thing you do after building your Business Page.

There is a restaurant in Plainfield, IL on Facebook who did nothing more than put a little handwritten sign on their soda machine, a scrap of paper with “Be our Fan on Facebook” written in Sharpie taped above the soda dispenser, this restaurant has over 1,500 Friends on Facebook, not bad considering there are 99,000 people on Facebook living in Plainfield, gaining 1,500 Friends by just posting a little scrap of paper on a soda machine shows any sort of sign works.

Grab a brand name box of cereal off the shelf; take a look at the back and you will likely see the “F” logo on the box.  Read the Sunday paper and check out the sales flyers, you will no doubt see the “F” logo on the ad.  This is FREE!  These companies are tacking the promotion of their Facebook Pages onto materials they were already sending out, they just popped in the Facebook info.

If your business has a Page on Facebook you should have the “F” logo on everything you send out – invoices, newsletters, communication letters, and business cards – any print materials you would be sending out anyway should have that logo on it.  Put a flyer in your office, have your web designer place a link on your website (Facebook actually provides the code with a direct link to your page for you), and create a signature line for all of your emails telling people about your page on Facebook.   There are over 4 million Facebook Users in the Chicago area alone, tell them you are on Facebook and where to find you.

Any time you contact a customer, a client, a colleague…anyone–your Facebook Page information should be included.   Because if you don’t tell them, they will not come!
