As a business owner hiring someone to handle your marketing on the various Social Networks and choosing the right consultant to represent your business can be a daunting task.  There are numerous  companies to choose from in the Chicago area.

Watch Status Updates & Tweets – Is the marketing company Business Page posting good solid information on social media and other information?  One of the goals to Social Media Marketing is to have a business Page that will “educate-inform-and become the source”.  Is the marketing company educating and informing its Friends and Followers?  Are they the source of information that is helpful and useful? 

Marketer Interaction– How do they interact with their customers and do they address comments and questions with good information or at all?  Look to see what the conversations are and if the Marketer is following up and providing feedback.   

Facebook Page Set-Up – Take a tour around their Business Page on Facebook and see if they have utilized all of the upgraded Page features.  Pay attention to custom tabs, their profile picture, and the photo strip at the top of the Page – if they are not using these areas chances are they will not be able to use them on your Page.  While you are there – check their Wall; see if their posts are consistent and informative. 

Real World Experience – Is the marketing company actually handling social network marketing for any Business  or have they in the past, proving real-life experience, or does the company just make speaking engagements and teach others how to do it.  The proof is in the pudding, can they actually run a Social Media Marketing campaign or do they just tell you how to run it?

Do You Like the People/Person – Upon meeting with the Marketing Company are these individuals you enjoyed being with, do they really seem to share your vision and know how to take your Business to the next level on Social Media?  If you didn’t like what they had to say and can’t see them representing your company, you need to keep looking.
