Social Media is crucial in order to have a successful Marketing & Advertising Plan. 71% of online adults are using Social Media and 91% of Millennials are using Social Media. It is a necessity for any business that actually wants to make money and sell products or services.

However, many smaller businesses have a hard time tackling the world of Social Media. Small business owners may feel that their personal efforts do “just fine” or that Social Media is not the “right place” for their business. read more

If you are finding it hard to believe that we are 16 years into the “new” millennium, you are not alone.  If you are also finding it difficult to keep up with the ways in technology has changed the world – including how people decide what products and services to buy and how they buy them – again, you are not alone.

In the world of 2000, Social Networking meant going to a cocktail party or meeting with other business people at a local restaurant.   If you had a website at all, it was definitely not “mobile friendly.”  Google was only 2 years old; it was only beginning to explore its advertising potential.  You probably advertised in the telephone book. You may have had brochures and flyers printed and mailed.  You had never heard of “inbound marketing.” read more

Technology changes fast.  When Google realized that more people access websites from mobile devices than from computers, it decided not to display websites that were not mobile friendly in search results.  This caught business owners off guard, and many scrambled to update their older websites. However, after almost a year, some website owners still haven’t heard the message. They continue to run websites that are not mobile friendly, and miss a significant share of search traffic.

This week, Google made another game changing announcement. read more

Facebook Notifications are how you stay informed and in touch with what is happening in your Facebook world.  Notifications are also becoming a primary way that people learn about things around them.

Today, Facebook has introduced their new app Notify.

Notify “delivers timely notifications about the things that matter to you, from the sources you love, all in one place.” (Facebook Newsroom)

There is a wide variety of information out there and everyone has interests that are important to them, Notify makes it easy to find notifications about the information that matters most to each user.  It provides a “broad selection of great ‘stations’ across a variety of categories.”  (Facebook Newsroom) read more

We are thrilled to announce that the Instagram community has grown to more than 400 million strong. While milestones like this are important, what really excites us is the way that visual communication makes the world feel a little bit smaller to every one of us. – Instagram, September 2015

Instagram is “an online mobile photo-sharing, video-sharing and social networking service that enables it’s users to take pictures and videos, and share them on a variety of social networking platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Flickr.”  (Wikipedia) read more

Social Media Marketing is how marketing is done, and with Facebook fine-tuning its advertising platform and the other Social Networks adding advertising components it is fast becoming the place to advertise as well.

However, many small to medium sized businesses have not committed to a consistent campaign. Assigning a budget for this is still hard for them to do, not to mention the confusion of where they should focus their efforts and, of course, how to even use the sites for marketing and advertising. read more

Social Media is how marketing and advertising are done today. However, for all of its growth and prosperity the majority of business owners we come across are still skeptical of Social Media Marketing.
No matter how many statistics you recite or positive case studies you show them they still run ads in the phone book and send out postcards and ignore Social Media or they jump into it and expect that they will soon have customers beating down their doors.
We have been talking about the importance of Social Media since 2007, giving our first presentation to a small business group. While we have had quite a few clients located in the Chicago area, and have a few who are still with us and have been since the beginning, it is frustrating to market our services in our own location read more

Google has left no doubt about how important it is to have a mobile-friendly site:

“Starting April 21, we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results. Consequently, users will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimized for their devices.”  (Google Webmaster Blog)

What this means is that Google’s algorithm can not only tell if your website is easily seen on mobile devices, but may ignore those that are not.  In fact, they are now displaying a “Mobile Friendly” icon when they display your website or blog in their search results. read more
