Just because over 70% of online adults use Social Media, and 91% of Millennials (the next big consumer group) use Social Media does not mean it is worth your time or money.  Right?

Traditional marketing still matters.  Just because it’s 2017, does not mean you can’t still market like it’s 1999.

Here are 5 reasons you absolutely, positively do not need to use Social Media to market or advertise your business.

1.    Print newspapers will probably make a comeback any day now, maybe.

For nearly a decade now, newspaper circulation has been in a steady decline.  In 2010, circulation had a sharp decline, but has been rising very slowly since.  Well, until 2016 when it had its sharpest decline since 2010. read more

hash·tag – noun

(used on social media sites such as Instagram) a word or phrase preceded by a hash or pound sign (#) and used to identify messages on a specific topic.

“spammers often broadcast tweets with popular hashtags even if the tweet has nothing to do with them”

Hashtags were created by Twitter to organize content and allow for better searching on the site.  Other sites quickly picked up the hashtag craze and now most sites feature hashtags to organize content and provide search parameters to find topics and interests. read more

2016 is coming to a close and 2017 will be here before we know it.  Predictions for marketing trends in 2017 are all over the place.  Below are the top 5 content marketing predictions for 2017.

1.    Video Content will Dominate

Live or staged videos will be a necessity in any marketing strategy in the next year.  Videos drive more sales and more engagement than any other type of content.  Studies have found that those who view videos are 1.81 times more likely to buy that those who don’t – even having “video” in the subject line of your emails has been shown to increase open rates. (See our blog for more information about why video content will be king in 2017.) read more

The first Presidential Debate of the 2016 Election is now over.  While there was a clear winner on stage, the real winner was the internet and Social Media.

This debate sparked a lot of online activity.  This was the first debate live-streamed by both Facebook and Twitter.  Every news outlet also posted in real-time and the Google search was quite active with keyword related searches in real-time while the debate was happening on stage.

The biggest Google Search came early on in the debate when candidate Clinton said people could visit her website and fact-check the candidates in real-time.  Google erupted with searches for the Hillary Clinton website. This was the largest Google search of the evening. read more

The 2016 Presidential Election has not only been interesting (and a complete circus), but it has been fascinating to see how it is playing out on Social Media.

This election has shown how important Social Media is to the candidates and to the citizens of the United States and it is definitely creating a new information cycle that will “shape campaigns for years to come.” (source)

44% of all American adults obtain their news from Social Media. (source)  Whether it’s Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc. the people are using the Social sites to obtain information.  Social Media gives people access to news information in real-time, as well as information about the candidates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  People can access any information at any time of day. read more

If you still think Social Media is not a viable resource to share news, search for information or even marketing and advertise your business you really need to get with the program.

This week House Democrats, a bunch of older politicians, proved that Social Media is a very powerful tool and used that tool effectively.

As most everyone knows the Democrats held a sit-in to force a vote on gun control.  Cameras in the House are controlled by the House, so when the Speaker ended the session cameras turned off and C-Span went black. read more

In the past few weeks we have spoken with a few business owners who are doing “just fine” with their current marketing and advertising efforts (or lack of effort.)  They were all established, small local businesses with a firm foundation in the community.

Thus far, a few print ads (where there is still print), coupon mailers and word-of-mouth from current loyal customers has helped to propel them forward.

They saw absolutely no need to pay for Social Media assistance, didn’t see the importance of using the sites for marketing purposes and certainly were not interested in advertising. read more
